Fiori Musicali have been orchestra-in-residence at the St Ceciliatide International Festival of music for eleven years, bringing the sound of authentic instrument performance right to the heart of the City. Under the baton of Dr Penelope Rapson (the Festival's Artistic Director), Fiori have spearheaded the revival of Cecilian concerts at Stationers' Hall, after what had been a hiatus of nearly 300 years. Fiori's performance of Purcell's famous ode Hail! Bright Cecilia in 1992 (a work written originally for the 1692 St Cecilia celebrations) launched the twentieth-century revival of Cecilian concerts at Stationers' Hall. Other notable performances have included Handel's Alexander's Feast (written to a text by Alexander Pope designed for the 1697 Cecilian festivities) and Zelenka's Requiem in C minor, which received its London début with Fiori Musicali. Not tied completely to the world of baroque and classical, 2001 found the orchestra giving what was probably the first authentic instrument performance of Rodrigo's celebrated guitar concerto with leading Spanish guitarist José María Gallardo del Rey. Fiori have also commissioned music from composer Geoffrey Burgon for the Festival. Please click Fiori Musicali to visit their web site |
